Sept 21 Daily Rhthyms

Morning
Ps4:1-2

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!
O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies?

In these two verses we see two things to remember today. 1) “men” (which includes us all) prefer shame vanity and lies to walking with God. 2) God is gracious enough to hear us when we call on him, be he alone is the one who makes us “righteous” or whole.

How do you prefer these things? Call on God for help.

Afternoon
Ps 4:3-4
But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself;
the LORD hears when I call to him.
Be angry, and do not sin;
ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.

God calls his people. When it the psalmist says “God has set the Godly apart for himself” it also means he makes them godly, look up at verse one – who is our righteousness? Consider this, how has God rescued and healed your broken places? Thank him for that.

Evening
Ps 4:5-8
Offer right sacrifices,
and put your trust in the LORD.
There are many who say, “Who will show us some good?
Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!”
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety

The sacrifice that the Lord desires is simply all of ourselves. As you lay down to sleep tonight, note the words of Paul in Romans 12 – Present your bodies to God as a living sacrifice, this is your true act of worship.
