(Re)Booting a Podcast
A couple years ago I wanted to create podcast episodes helping us to regain a reformational vision of life. I started this off with several episodes where I sat at my computer and talked. Then to be honest, it got old. It’s probably a character flaw but many things get old quickly for me, but talking to myself tops the list.
Then we hired Jim as an assistant pastor and he is the poster child for doing stuff. I mean I can’t tell you how helpful he has been in building consistency into my own schedule and into the schedule of our church.
One of the first things he said to me was that we needed to bring that podcast back to life.
I was hesitant because, well like I said… I didn’t want to be talking to myself. But Jim made me put a date on the calendar and encouraged his wife Chantalle to join us for an initial recording session. I got some gear for producing better quality recordings, and on the day before Thanksgiving we sat down together for a few hours and recorded a series for advent.
Advent is the perfect time for rebooting this too, because it is the beginning of the liturgical year.
If we are to pursue a worldview and practice of life built on the principles of the reformation it is good to tip our hats to liturgy. Liturgy is the ancient practice of living into the rhythms of seasonal living. You might even say is about using the calendar to intentionally shape our affections.
Advent is a time of recognizing within ourselves longings that are often unmet. Advent is a time for looking forward to fulfillment, and getting closer to it.
Consider during this season what longings in your own life are unmet and ask how they can find their culmination in the coming of the Christ.
When I edited our conversation I cut them into six episodes that will be released throughout advent. I would love it if you subscribed to our itunes feed, and even interact with the things we discussed on our facebook page where we will post links to each episode. I would value hearing your thoughts about our discussions.
If neither of those are for you but you still want to listen in, you can still grab the ear candy by listening to the discussions on the MyBcc App.
This won’t be the last you will hear from this podcast, we will release more series and more topics and your feedback would be helpful.
