March 19 Daily Rhythm

Morning
Psalm 90:1-2

Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Psalm 90 is a Psalm about comfort in dying. God spans from generation to generation. We do not. The mountains do not precede him and they shall not outlast him. God is beyond us and bigger than us. Everlasting to everlasting. Take comfort this morning in this: God is God and you are not.

Afternoon
Psalm 90:3-4

You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!” For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.

God, you stand in the throne room of the universe and watch the rotation of the seasons and the days of lives. We are but dust before you and yet you take an interest in us. Thank you that not only do you see us, you actually joined us in this, becoming one of us. We are no god, but God is man.

Evening
Psalm 90:5-6

You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers.

Here today, gone tomorrow. So short, so brief, so frightening. And yet, you are God. You are from everlasting to everlasting. We can rest tonight knowing that the God who holds our winters and summers inches hand is good, gracious and almighty.
