March 12 Daily Rhythm
Morning
Psalm 89:1-4
I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.” You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: ‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’”
Oh God, help us sing of your love today. For centuries you have pursued your people. Through deserts and across continents. You have pursued us even as we have run from you. You Lord Jesus are our king and hero.
Afternoon
Psalm 89:5-8
Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you?
Father, we confess that there are times we find other places of happiness to be more fulfilling than you, even when we know better. There is none like you. As we sand yesterday at church, “Jesus is better, make my heart believe.” There truly is none like you.
Evening
Psalm 89:9-11
You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm. The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.
Rahab here does not refer to the prostitute who helped the ancient Israelites, but an ancient sea monster. It is worth noting that God is master of heavens, earth and sea. It is all his. Everything belongs to him. Including you. Rest easy. You are not your own.
