Feb 2 Daily Rhythm
Morning
Psalm 74:12-17
Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters. You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. You split open springs and brooks; you dried up ever-flowing streams. Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun. You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.
Oh Lord, the line – “your’s is the day and Your’s is the night” reminds me that the darkness is not dark to you. You are good and right and holy and in the darkness where sin, pain, and misery hide you see clearly. God, won’t you root that out of our hearts? Help us to become people who are deeply committed to the light. And remind us of your power and glory even when we want to run and hide.
Afternoon
Psalm 74:18-19
Remember this, O LORD, how the enemy scoffs, and a foolish people reviles your name. Do not deliver the soul of your dove to the wild beasts; do not forget the life of your poor forever.
Oh God, there are many today who suffer innocently. We think of the children that our culture sends to early deaths by the millions. We think of the Christians in places that are unsafe for your people. We think of the oppressed even in our own country. God would you bring justice to the broken places in our world? Bring our hearts to care and bring justice to bear. More and more, may we be people who do not stand for wickedness, but instead fight for justice.
Evening
Psalm 74:20-23
Have regard for the covenant, for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence. Let not the downtrodden turn back in shame; let the poor and needy praise your name. Arise, O God, defend your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day! Do not forget the clamor of your foes, the uproar of those who rise against you, which goes up continually!
Oh Lord, it is because of your word that you chose a people. It s by your blood, Jesus, that you rescue them. Do not abandon us! Notice the shame inside of us, the brokenness around us, and the fears we often hide. And arise to bring glory to your name through our restoration and transformation! Help us to be A people who reveal your goodness to the world.
