Advent Day 9

Exodus 19:4-6
Tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’
Have you ever thought about all that God did to rescue a people for himself? Slaves were rescued from Egypt as a way of demonstrating God’s great love and his great hope for humanity.
Restoration. God wants to make whole what has been broken. Like an old home that has been damaged by fire, the owner can either destroy or restore it. God has chosen to restore.
Think of three ways you have seen God restore broken things, in your life, in your family, in your community. Thank him for it.
But God isn’t done. Think of something in your life, family and community that could still use restoration. What do you suppose we are here for? What will you do?
Prayer
Gracious, redeeming Father, thank you for the ways I have seen you restore broken things already. Don’t let me rest in that, show me places where you are at work and give me a desire to be involved in your work of restoration around me.
