Advent Day 23

Luke 2:14
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
The angels came singing to shepherds to announce the arrival of the king of ages. They sang of God’s Glory and peace on earth.
These two things speak to the deepest parts of our souls. Glory! We love it! We can stand in awe of ancient monuments that speak of the great accomplishments of humanity. Millions travel annually to see things like Mount Rushmore, the Roman Colosseum, and the Washington monument.
We like to stand before these grand structures because they make us feel like we are a part of something great. We admire glory and we stand in awe.
Peace! How deeply we yearn for it! Peace in our lives, peace in our relationships, and peace in the world.
If the angels had announced that God’s highest glory and world peace had come, we would feel a little ripped off. But they were announcing the beginning.
We can stand before the highest glory ever because of the Christ Child. He can look upon us with complete perfection and adoration because of the work of Jesus. We can come to one another confessing the harm we do and asking forgiveness, because we have been forgiven.
The angel’s announcement was the announcement of the pathway of our hearts deepest longings. Christ is the path to Glory and Peace.
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, you came into our world of brokenness, shame, and war to bring Glory and Peace. Help me to experience these by your virtue, not my own, and make me an aid to others who would seek Highest Glory and Peace on Earth.
