Advent Day 22

Matt. 2:13-15
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
The family of Jesus had a difficult life at times. When Jesus was just a toddler he was forced to flee his home for political and religious persecution.
We know people who have that story. Some of us may be fearful that these days may come again for some of us or our children.
There are no guarantees.
But there is this: Jesus has suffered in the flesh. He knows what it is to feel the full force of the effects of the fall. Human failings, difficult circumstances, loss, and death are all the effects of the fall on us struggling humans.
We have a hero who knows what it feels like to be us, and he has conquered this world on our behalf.
Prayer
Jesus, I know you understand the pain I sometimes feel. Will you let me feel just a bit of your peace and your victory as I trust you in these pilgrim days to carry me.
