Advent Day 17

Psalm 2: 1-6
Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”
He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”
For long ages the story of human creatures has remain unchanged. We want power. Power to protect ourselves, to defend ourselves, to provide for ourselves.
The story of humanity is a story of people looking after themselves. The story of being made for another, protected and cared for by another has been lost in the selfish pride of humanity.
And so the nations rage against the bonds of the one who made them.
The God of Heaven and Earth along with the king he has called to reign over humanity laugh at the selfishness and pride of human creatures who believe they can assert themselves over him.
Prayer
Jesus, you are the king who reigns. protect me from raging like the nations. Help me to be satisfied under your care and in your service.
