Oct 27 Daily Rhythms

Morning
Psalm 31:19-20

Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.

No matter what the schemes of men, or the agendas of a shortsighted and dying human kingdom. God will always prevail. His people are the ones who will be victorious. Not because we are great, but because he is. Have a good day.

Afternoon
Psalm 31:21-22

Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city. I had said in my alarm, “I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.

Modern Westerners may not easily grasp the image of being in a besieged city. You know you will die a violent death soon. Hopefully you will starve before the walls come down. Sometimes living in the world can feel that way. We feel abandoned by God and all hope. But NO!! God has heard your cries, and he does rescue. Take heart and hope in him.

Evening
Psalm 31:23-24

Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride. Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!

Note how this ends! After wondering, doubting and questioning. Constantly reminding himself in the midst of struggle that God can be trusted, the Psalmist reminds us that the Lord always preserves those who wait for him. Do you sit and wait? Or do you demand that he work on your schedule? Let your heart take courage! He is faithful top his people. Rest well.
