Morning
Psalm 29:1-4

Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

This has long been one of my favorite Psalms. I come from a tradition of cold and stiff worship. Where moving your knee in church is a very real risk. But these words thump with emotional energy. The worshipper becomes lost in the object of worship and the glory observed. Read it aloud and feel the power of God’s Glory way over you.

Afternoon
Psalm 29:5-9

The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire. The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare, and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

All the power houses of the world are nothing to him. Read: God turns ISIS into dust, Kim Jong Il and all his bombs are but grass. Imagine the awe inspiring power and majesty of God, now close your eyes and hear the loud cry from the assembly in the temple – “GLORY!!!” There is great freedom and joy in standing in that assembly. Thank God that he has called you there by his grace.

Evening
Psalm 29:10-11

The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!

There is an old Hymn called “Whatever the Lord Ordains is Right.” This psalm powerfully echoes this idea. He is Good, no matter what. Rest in his goodness, his love for his people, and in his awesome power to uphold his will.
