Discussion for Judges 10:6-12:7 we meet Jephthah

In this text we read about how the people are “crushed and oppressed” for 18 years.  God appears to have given up on the “selling them” into the hands of their enemies, he tells them to call on the God’s they have chosen to save them.  The people respond with what looks like genuine repentance.  And God saves them by the hand of Jephthah.  He is no real hero. This man has a dirty past and a dirtier future.  But he is God’s chosen instrument to rescue his people.

1) What is the best way to describe the attitude of the people in verse 10:15  “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to you. Only please deliver us this day.”

2) have you ever been at a place when you said, whatever you do God, I just want you?

3) What is the problem with Jephthah’s vow?

4) What area of your life do you struggle to trust God with?
