Nov 21 Daily Rhythm

Morning
Psalm 46:1-7

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

The earth is broken. Creation groans for restoration. Humanity is impoverished – Materially, emotionally and spiritually. May we remember that all other hopes are a part of this broken creation. But God and God alone will always remain a present help in times of trouble.

Afternoon
Psalm 46:8 -11

Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

When I read that last line hear the word will stressed. God shouts, “I WILL be exalted!!” The glory of the Lord is a highly underpriced reality in most churches. God demands exaltation. And he deserves it. In fact he is the only being worthy of being lifted up. Our hearts require worship. We must worship something. Worship and exalt God, and you will notice that the other things your heart worships fall away.

Evening
Psalm 47:1-4

Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth. He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

This evening lift up your heart to God. He has called you, he has shaped you, he has molded you, he has rescued you, and he is restoring you. Rest well, you are in his care.
