Go Deeper – H.A.B.I.T.S. are like tools for the spiritual life

Habits are like tools for the spiritual life.

In Colossians chapter 1, starting in verse 26, it reads:

26-29 “This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open. God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. That’s what I’m working so hard at day after day, year after year, doing my best with the energy God so generously gives me.” (The Message)

All followers of Jesus Christ are called to maturity.  Spiritual roots must go deep in the sufficient grace of Jesus Christ.  Maturity is living daily with the trinity, incorporating and involving habits and lifestyles unique to the person of Jesus Christ.

In the BCC student ministry one of our goals is to help young followers “Go Deeper” in their maturing relationship with Jesus Christ.  Some things we will implement and teach are the H.A.B.I.T.S.

H stands for Hang Time with God.  Spending time with God.

A stands for Accountability.  Helping students find other believers to share in their struggles.  Whether it be adults or other young followers.

B stands for Bible Memorization.

I stands for Involvement in the Church and outside the church walls.  Getting students serve.

T stands for Tithe.  Helping students understand the importance of giving of their time & money.

S stands for Studying of the Bible and Sharing with others.

Over the year we will give students the TOOLS to help in the “maturing” process of their relationship with Jesus Christ.  We will help students understand how to use the TOOLS and why they are important.  We do this because we want students to be fully mature in Jesus Christ.

BCC’s Student Ministry EXISTS to challenge and equip students to BE LOVED by Jesus Christ, to GO DEEPER in a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ and to LIVE IT OUT in their day-to-day lives.
