Feb 8 Daily Rhythm

Morning
Psalm 77:13-15

Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.

Lord Jesus, we are surrounded by gods. They all promise something different. WE see them on TV and on newsstands. Most commercials try to persuade us of their goodness. We sometimes are tempted to trust in them. But these gods have failed to keep their promises. You kept your promise. You met us in Egypt and you met us on the cross. Both times you rescued your people. You are good and you are trustworthy. Where other gods have abandoned us, you never will.

Afternoon
Psalm 77:16-18

When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook.

Your majesty has often been great oh God. You went with your people as fire and smoke. Your glory has terrified even the most holy among us. Help our hearts to tremble before your glory the way our forefathers did. Help us to see a glimpse of your power that we might be humbled that you love us. Help us see a glimpse of your glory that we might praise you more fully.

Evening
Psalm 77:19-20

Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

God, you lead your people like a flock. Sheep are not smart animals. They are proud and often do not do what is in their own interest. God, we can be that way. Lead us like sheep. Remind us that we are sheep and sheep are stupid. Remind us that you, Jesus, are the good shepherd who laid down his life for us sheep. Help us to rest in this reality more than any other.
