Feb 6 Daily Rhythm

Morning
Psa. 76:1-3

In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war.

God, this song you gave your people begins with thankfulness. Thankfulness that you have rescued your people. You have rescued me. Undeserving of your grace, having spoiled and ruined further the gift of my life. You in your unending grace pursued and conquered my rebellion against you. Thank you that I can begin this day with the knowledge that I am yours.

Afternoon
Psa. 76:4-9

Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains full of prey. The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned. But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth.

Oh God, there are many who trouble my soul. Life, temptations, addictions, people who want to see me ruined. Yet you are God. I am not. Save me for your own glory. That my life may reveal your power and your name to your enemies. Cause others to fall down before you in your glory. Cause the earth to fear you.

Evening
Psa. 76:10-12

Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt. Make your vows to the LORD your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

Oh God, there are many to be feared in our world. ISIS, sexual predators, abusers, greedy, and soulless people. Pour out your wrath on your enemies. Thank you that you make another way. You have given the cross for and made it available to all. Cause those who oppose you to turn from wickedness and toward the cross, and come quickly to restore our broken world.
